Trust & transparency

Advertiser disclosure.

This page is maintained by Quote Shifter to answer common questions about how we make money, why our guidance stays independent, and what you should watch for when reading any insurance comparison site — including ours.

01

Quote Shifter is an independent, ad-supported comparison platform.

We are not an insurer. We are not owned by an insurer. We are an editorial and comparison brand that helps US consumers understand, compare, and buy insurance — auto, home, renters, and life.

02

How we're compensated.

When you use Quote Shifter to compare quotes and then take out a policy with one of the providers we surface, that provider pays us a one-off referral fee. This fee is disclosed to and on file with state Departments of Insurance. It is paid by the insurer, not by you. The premium you pay is identical to going direct — State DOI rules prohibit price mark-ups on referred customers.

03

What we do not do.

We do not accept payment for editorial placement. We do not sell your data to third parties. We do not run affiliate ad tags for insurers we haven't personally vetted. We do not add fees, admin charges, or 'service costs' to your quote.

04

How compensation affects (and doesn't affect) what you see.

The referral fees we receive can differ between providers. To prevent this from biasing our rankings, our editorial ranking process (see our Editorial Standards) is separated from our commercial team — reviewers do not see referral-fee data when scoring providers. Any product listed as a 'top pick' or included in a 'best of' review must meet our editorial criteria regardless of what it pays us.
